Frequently Asked Questions
You are encouraged to contact your primary care doctor for all of your health care needs. Your doctor knows your medical history and can best direct you to the appropriate care at the time.
Do I need a referral to MinuteClinic from my Sharp Community Medical Group primary care doctor to have my visit covered by my health plan?
No. You can go to a MinuteClinic for non-urgent illnesses and injuries for the same copay (regardless of health plan) as your Sharp Community doctor. We encourage you to contact your doctor for all of your health care needs. Your doctor knows your medical history and can best direct you to the appropriate care at the time.
Can I go to a MinuteClinic if I need to be seen right away and can't get a same-day appointment with my Sharp Community doctor?
Yes. MinuteClinic has day, evening and weekend hours where you can be seen by a nurse practitioner for common illnesses, minor injuries, skin conditions and more. Making an appointment (online or via walk-ins) is now required for same-day visits.
I am a Sharp Community patient, but I haven't been in to see my primary care doctor yet. Can I still go to MinuteClinic?
Yes. However, we encourage you to make an appointment with your primary care doctor who can help you manage your overall, long term health and can best direct you to the appropriate care at the time.
Can I get my flu shot at MinuteClinic?
No. You can ask your Sharp Community doctor if you can receive your annual flu vaccine in their office or go to a Sharp Community authorized flu vaccine provider for the most affordable options.
What about immunizations for my children? Can I get them at MinuteClinic?
Children ages 18 months to 5 years of age can receive immunizations at MinuteClinic. Some vaccines may require a prescription. See the list of MinuteClinic locations listed above. Children 6 years and older should receive their immunizations at their primary care doctor's office or at an Sharp Community authorized vaccine provider.
What types of illnesses or injuries can I be seen for at MinuteClinic?
Health issues such as skin conditions, minor burns or lacerations, earaches/ear infections, sinus infections and sore throat/strep. Keep in mind that MinuteClinic offers some services such as smoking cessation and weight loss programs that may not be covered by your health plan. It's always a good idea to ask first.
