Caring for a Diverse Community (Video)
Family relationships, culture and language all play a part in how patients access medical care and communicate with their doctors. In diverse communities such as San Diego's South Bay, doctors who understand these factors are better equipped to provide the best medical care for their patients.
Leticia Polanco, MD, a family medicine doctor affiliated with Sharp Community Medical Group, grew up in a bilingual family in San Diego County. When she had the chance to leave the cold climate in Boston and return to sunny San Diego to practice medicine, she took it. She also brought along her partner in life and medicine, Tracy "Trace" Polanco, MD. Together, they run a family medicine practice serving South Bay families.
In the video above, Doctors Polanco talk about their role as "Chula Vistians" and share their perspective on incorporating culture in caring for a multicultural community.
